Gliese 531 c(L)
An artistic illustration by the European Southern Observatory shows the new planet known as Gliese 531 c(L) orbiting a red dwarf star. European astronomers have spotted what they say is the most Earth-like planet yet outside our solar system, with balmy temperatures that could support water and, potentially, life.
M81 Spiral Galaxy
A new ultroviolent image has ben taken of the magnificent M81 spiral galaxy. It was taken by NASA's Galaxy Evolution Explorer, GALEX.
Royal Navy Super-sub
Construction work continues on the Royal Navy's newsest super-sub, Astute, in the BAE shipyard in Cumbria.
